| The Lakeshore Village Business Improvement Area runs along Lakeshore Blvd. from Twelfth Street to the west and Dwight Avenue to the east. This area was formerly known as the New Toronto Businessmen’s Association, which was incorporated in 1948. In 1982 the BIA changed its name to the Lakeshore Village Business Improvement Area and implemented a streetscape improvement plan that included the installation of decorative lamps, benches, planters and over 100 trees. This infrastructure is in place today and has been paid for and maintained by the local merchants. Initial cost in 1982- $400,000.
In the summer - June to Oct the merchants provide the hanging planters and flowers in the planter boxes. During the Christmas season we install the Christmas decorations on our decorative lampposts. We are also one of the founding members and supporters of the Etobicoke Santa Clause parade. Seasonal banners are also displayed during the year.
And as an answer to a FAQ by local residents “ no dear the City does not supply or maintain any of the above”. The lamps, benches, flowers, parade and banners are all supplied and maintained by your neighbourhood merchants.
There are over one hundred and fifty businesses in the Lakeshore Village Business Improvement Area with an excellent assortment of businesses, restaurants, shops and services that cater to the local community.
“We are your local shopping area”.
